Position Summary

Iterum Therapeutics plc: Headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, is a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company dedicated to developing significantly differentiated anti-infectives aimed at combatting the global crisis of multi-drug resistant (MDR) pathogens to significantly improve the lives of people affected by serious and life-threatening diseases around the world.

The Head of Market Access and Reimbursement will be responsible for strategy and execution across all reimbursement and distribution activities including interactions with public and private payers/distributors with the goal to secure the product access for Iterum’s portfolio. The role requires expertise covering: the payer value proposition for assets in development; the price-volume-value relationship; the evolving national and regional payer environment; the development of access strategies; and the growing sensitivity to pricing/access to medicines across both outpatient and inpatient settings. The individual will leverage a deep understanding of the PBM/payer and pharmaceutical businesses and will ultimately serve as the leader for both internal and customer-facing Market Access teams (of note, efforts early on will be as a sole contributor in the Market Access group ahead of the broader team build-out as the company approaches commercialization). Furthermore, the role holder will be expected to execute their duties whilst closely integrating with Commercial, Finance, and Medical Affairs

Primary Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Translates established brand strategies and contracting objectives into actionable plans by developing customer-specific approaches to establish patient access and financial performance
  • Creates business case process for all relevant channels (payer, PBM, institution, GPO, Wholesaler, Pharmacy), including structure and content of formal reviews and presentations; is the link between payer channels, brand strategies and performance on overall ROI objectives
  • Combines marketplace knowledge and data resources to develop a comprehensive approach to leveraging Access opportunities (anticipating contracting risks and opportunities)
  • Leads negotiation, implementation and ongoing optimization of contracts across stakeholders  
  • Offers operations insight that support data analysis and performance of providers for contract reviews, assessments and model optimization
  • Establishes distribution service model to ensure optimum efficiency and performance
  • Provides leadership to the Market Access team as a thought partner to measure impact of various contracting strategies and scenarios to achieve access & financial goals
  • Delivers high impact presentations, seeks collaborative participation, and gains commitment as necessary across internal and external stakeholders

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Advanced Degree in business administration or healthcare related field is strongly preferred
  • Minimum 15 years experience working within a Managed Markets organization in pharmaceuticals, including direct experience working with key customer groups (e.g. PBMs, Payers, LTC)
  • 5 years of direct people and team management experience
  • 5 years of progressive experience in one or more of the following areas: Analytics, Marketing, Pricing/Contracting, Pharmacy-related or Financial Planning in healthcare industry (desirable)

Skills and Experience

Required

  • Demonstrated knowledge of payor decision-making for policy, coverage and patient access
  • Excellent communicator, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
  • Results driven, with a desire to work in a fast paced environment that values collaboration, integrity and accountability
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, project and time management skills
  • Documented success with direct-contracting (Commercial, Medicare Part D, Medicaid)
  • Ability to travel >50 percent of the time - to meet with health care professionals. purchasing customers, hospitals/ACOs, and third-party payor organizations including commercial insurers, Medicare/Medicaid as well as team members; and attend trade shows

A Plus

  • Experience working with both outpatient and hospital-based pharmaceuticals
  • Experience working within a health plan or PBM, in a capacity that involved contracting with pharmaceutical companies or similar
  • Experience in home care or long-term care settings
  • Experience working with/in Wholesalers and Pharmacies (distribution networks)
